About the event
With Cesare Moreno, Nazario Zambaldi and Sabina Langer.
Presentation of the new edition Insegnare al principe di Danimarca (Teaching the Prince of Denmark), the collection of Carla Melazzini's writings, edited by Cesare Moreno, president of Maestri di Strada in Naples. Born in Valtellina, Carla Melazzini (1944-2009) studied at the Scuola Normale of Pisa, and moved to Naples in the late 1960s. Teacher in technical and professional institutes, she describes in these pages her experience with a project outside the public school, but complementary and connected to this institution: the 'Chance Project', which she founded together with Cesare Moreno in September 1998 and from which the Maestri di Strada association was born in 2003.
The title of the book obviously alludes to Hamlet, Shakespeare's protagonist, but in reality the Prince of Denmark here is 15-year-old Mimmo, who suffers from a similar tragic conflict: hatred for the man, a stranger to him, with whom his mother now lives. Melazzini's pedagogical proposal is precisely this: to understand the conflicts that inhabit adolescents in order to foster stimulating teaching and educational practices, open to perspectives of relationships and life that the adolescents often feel as inaccessible and therefore repudiate. In eleven years of activity, the Chance project has prepared for the secondary school leaving examination hundreds of boys and girls who had dropped out of compulsory school, confined to the outskirts of Naples, born into families on the margins of society.
